Wiltshire Police is the Home Office police force responsible for policing Wiltshire and Swindon in south-west England.

Wiltshire Police Authority has 9 councillors (from both Wiltshire County Council and Swindon Borough Council), 3 justices of the peace, and 5 independent members.

The force was established in 1839 under the County Police Act 1839, and was the first county police force to be formed. Its motto is Primus Et Optimus which means First and Best.

The Wiltshire Police were the police involved in the Battle of the Beanfield.

In January 2008 Brian Moore was appointed as Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police. He took over following the departure of Martin Richards who started as chief constable in Sussex on October 1st 2007.

The current Assistant Chief Constable is Andy Marsh.

Headquarters and stations

The headquarters of the force is currently Devizes in Wiltshire, chosen as being the point most geographically close to the centre of the force Area.
