Claydon Junction
Claydon Junction, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) east of Claydon station and about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) north of Calvert railway station, is where the former Great Central Main Line met the Varsity Line (Oxford/Cambridge Line). The Great Central closed north of here in 1966, leaving the section via Quainton to Aylesbury open as the Aylesbury branch of the Varsity Line.

Future: HS2
HS2 Ltd (on behalf of HM Government) plans to route High Speed 2 (HS2) here along the Great Central route.[1][2] Land adjacent to the junction is (as of September 2010) the preferred location for the [centrally located, major] 'Infrastructure Maintenance Depot' serving HS2.[3] The former Varsity Line, which HS2 Ltd's consulants Arup assumes will have reopened at least as far as the West Coast Main Line at Bletchley, will be used to supply the depot.[3]
Present day
Today Claydon L&NE junction is used for binliner (containerised domestic waste) and spoil trains going to the landfill site at Calvert and moving empty coaching stock. The East West Rail Consortium may reopen the station and the Varsity line from Oxford to Bletchley including the Aylesbury branch within 20 years.
