CJIC

CJIC

CJIC was the callsign of three Canadian broadcast outlets in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Two of the stations are now entirely defunct, and the third continues to operate with a different callsign.

The radio stations were established by Highland Broadcasting, a company owned by local businessman Grant Hyland, until 1976. In that year, they were sold to Huron Broadcasting, who subsequently sold the radio stations to another owner but retained ownership of the television station.

* CJIC, an AM radio station launched in 1935, which subsequently used the callsign CFYN from 1977 until its shutdown in 1992,
* CJIC-FM, an FM radio station launched in 1964, which changed its callsign to CHAS in 1977 and is still in operation,
* CJIC-TV, a television station which broadcast from 1955 to 2002 and is now a rebroadcaster of CBLT.

The CJIC callsign has never been reassigned to a new Canadian broadcaster.
