David Cooper (disaster response expert)

David Cooper is currently the Regional Medical Director Assistance (Australasia) at International SOS.

Prior to his current position, Cooper held the Foundation Chair of Disaster response and preparedness in the Menzies Institute of Health Research, Charles Darwin University, and the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre at Royal Darwin Hospital. Before that, Cooper was the Director of the NSW Health Counter Disaster Unit and was responsible for the development of the Australian Mass Casualty Burn Disaster Plan (AUSBURNPLAN).

Operationally, Cooper has been involved in the Bali bombings, the Asian tsunami disaster, and in May 2008, led the first AusAID medical team to Yogyakarta in southern Java, following the devastating earthquake.
