Drumhead
Drumhead is an American percussion magazine. Hitting stands in January 2007, Drumhead expanded its distribution to Pacific Rim countries including New Zealand, Australia and New South Wales in 2011. Beginning in 2009, the magazine has been translated into Mandarin and is available across China.
Drumhead magazine provides musicians of all musical styles with the most complete and accurate sources available. It is a uniquely integrated media package consisting of a print magazine, interactive music download as a well as a dynamic and multi-faceted website. Drumhead encompasses a compelling editorial mix of information regarding education, recording, performance, instruments, equipment and business issues. Drumhead publishes an honest look at the artists, the lives they lead and the world they live in – not just what kit they play and who they’re playing it with, but what makes them who they are. Now four years old, the magazine has covered a wide variety of top drummers such as John Riley, Billy Cobham, Dave Mattacks, Mike Mangini, Jim Keltner, Terry Bozzio, Niel Peart, Ray Luzier, Abe Laborial Jr. and many more.
Education
Drumhead tapes and tabs private master classes in various departments covering everything from advanced playing, basic studio chops, independence, digital editing and more, all while covering all styles of music from around the globe. The magazine calls on the top players and teachers to share the guidance and instruction that has helped them get to where they are today. Garry Chaffee, Mike Mangini, Larry Fratangelo, Victor Jones, Steven Wolf, and Dave Mattacks are among the many returning and notable teachers.
Drumhead also has master classes with guest instructors like Jeremy Colson,Victor Indrizzo, Ray Luzier, Jason Bittner and more.
Learn From The Pros: Every issue of Drumhead has note-for-note transcriptions of a variety of songs, covering everything from pop to prog, fusion to funk. This gives the reader a chance to follow along, to learn exactly what the drummer is playing and learn how to read a chart. Full drum charts as well as lead sheets are printed in every issue.
Practice With The Pros: Every issues contains songs to learn from, with drums and without, along with a drum chart in the magazine to learn following along and play to.

Drumhead magazine has maintained its official website since its beginning. It features select articles, forums, events, reviews and more. It is a beneficial tool for readers in between issues to keep up with the latest news, discover past issues and connect with other readers.
Drumhead is currently in the process of reworking their website for the readers’ advantage.
Staff
Jonathan Mover – Editor-in-chief, Jonathan Mover is a world-renowned professional drummer and percussionist who has recorded and/or performed with a variety of artists including Aretha Franklin, Alice Cooper, The Tubes, Shakira, Fuel, Everlast, Frank Gambale, Joe Satriani and Mick Jagger. Having appeared on well over 300 recordings, Jonathan now adds the title of “editor-in-chief” of Drumhead, making his career in music about as diverse as they come. Jonathan also has production and/or engineering credits with Shakira, Fuel and Celine Dion, composition and/or arrangement credits with Marillion, GTR and Joe Satriani, and has released two critically acclaimed solo projects known as einstein won and einstein too. Adding to this range of musical activities, Jonathan also owns and operates one of Manhattan’s finest state-of-the-art recording studios, Skyline Studios NYC.
Heather Smith – Managing Editor, Heather Smith has previously worked for a nationally distributed music magazine and published her own fanzine. In addition, Heather spent several years with Century Media Records, holding several key positions. As an integral part of the independent music scene, she brings to Drumhead an exceptional work ethic, professionalism and an innate understanding of the music industry. As managing editor, Heather is responsible for the magazine's production, distribution, subscription, day-to-day operations, freelancers and much more.
Awards
Drumhead won the Winter NAMM 2007 “Best in Show” award in the small goods category.
