Cody Boyd (born October 22, 1983) is an American football tight end. He attended training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Boyd has also been a member of the Washington Redskins.

Early years

Boyd was born in Bellingham, Washington to Gary Verstegen and Karen Boyd. He has one brother and two sisters. He attended Ferndale High School in Ferndale, Washington where he starred in football, basketball and track. He was named All-State at tight end in his senior year.[1]

College career

Boyd played college football at Washington State University majoring in sociology. He started nine games at tight end in his senior season and received All-Pac-10 honorable mention honors.[1]

Professional career

He was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was released by the Steelers prior to the start of the 2007 season, and spent a portion of that year with the Washington Redskins split between the team's active roster and the practice squad.[1]

Boyd once again attended training camp with the Steelers in 2008. He was injured in practice and had shoulder surgery on August 25, 2008.[2] He was waived injured by the Steelers the following day.[3] He subsequently was placed on the injured reserve list.

He had a tryout with the New York Giants in 2009, but did not make the squad.[4]
