Early life and career
Roy Russell Dowling was born on
28 May 1901 in the town of Condong, New South Wales. In 1915 Dowling entered theRoyal Australian Naval College atJervis Bay as part of the first intake. Although an underachiever academically, Dowling achieved the position of chief cadet captain and graduated as the King's medallist in 1918. [NAA 1939 - 1948]References
