Franz Burgmeier (born April 7, 1982 in Triesen) is a Liechtensteiner footballer who plays for Darlington.

Career

Club

Burgmeier started out as a youth at FC Triesen before moving to FC Vaduz in 2000. He then moved to FC Aarau in Switzerland after five seasons with the club. He was at Aarau for just one year before FC Basel snapped him up in 2006. FC Thun signed him on a six-month loan deal in January 2008. On 13 July, 2008 it was announced that his contract with FC Basel was being terminated early to allow him to find himself a new club. ] He made his debut on August 23, in a 2-1 defeat to Gillingham at The Darlington Arena. He scored his first goal for Darlington in a 2-1 win against Port Vale on September 13.

International

Burgmeier is a Liechtenstein international who made his debut in a World Cup qualifier against Spain in September 2001. He has won forty-nine caps, scored seven goals, and started all but two of Liechtenstein's games for the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. He scored a late consolation goal in the European Football Championship qualifying match loss (1-4) at home to Northern Ireland.
