Beijing Subway/13

Line 13 of the Beijing Subway, also known as the "CityRail Line" (城铁线), is a light rail line that serves the northern suburbs of Beijing. On a map, it is shaped like an inverted U that arcs north of the city and connects residential suburbs in Haidian and Chaoyang Districts with the 2nd Ring Road and Line 2 at Xizhimen and Dongzhimen. Most of Line 13's tracks and stations are located on the surface or elevated above ground.

Route & Stations

From Xizhimen, Line 13 heads northwest into the university district with bustling stops in Wudaokou and Zhichunlu. It then turns northeast and then east, following the Beijing-Baotou rail line, before reaching Beiyuan where it curls southwest onto the Beijing Chengde Expressway to Dongzhimen.

History

Line 13 was opened in two phases: The western section between Xizhimen and Huoying was opened on September 28, 2002; the eastern section from Huoying to Dongzhimen was opened on January 28, 2003. Despite being numbered 13, the line was only the fourth subway line to enter into operation. It was the first Beijing Subway line to adopt "Yikatong", the electronic farecard, at the end of 2003. Tickets cost CNY 2. Transfer tickets to and from Line 1 and Line 2 are no longer needed, as the entire Beijing subway system has adopted the Y2 flat fare with unlimited free transfers.
