Line 6, Beijing Subway

Line 6 of the Beijing Subway is currently under construction and is scheduled to be opened in 2012. The line will run parallel to and north of Line 1 and the Batong Line, from Haidian to Tongzhou District. With total planned length of 41.74 km and 27 stations, Line 6 will be the longest subway line in the city’s subway network. Line 6 may be the first to feature express and local stations. Construction is planned in in two phases.

Phase I

In Phase I, Line 6 will run about 30 km from Wulu in Haidian District to Caoying in Tongzhou District following Linglong Road, Sanlihe Road, Chaoyang North Rd., the west bank of the Grand Canal, and Grand Canal East Road. Of the 20 planned stations, 12 will offer transfer connections to other lines. Construction began in late 2007 and is scheduled to be completed in 2012. Planned stations from west to east (and transfer points to other lines): [For a map of Line 6, Phase I Plan, see [http://www.bii.com.cn/xxjs.asp?dj=3&bigClassName=%D4%DA%BD%A8%D0%C2%CF%DF%B9%EC%B5%C0%BD%BB%CD%A8%CF%EE%C4%BF&SmallClassName=%B1%B1%BE%A9%B5%D8%CC%FA%C1%F9%BA%C5%CF%DF%D2%BB%C6%DA&admin=1 Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co., Ltd.] Accessed on Sept. 6, 2008] Residents in Tongzhou District who live along the 7 km stretch of elevated tracks in Dingfuzhuang and Changying have raised concerns about train noise, prompting planners to consider moving trackage underground.
