It is located approximately 40km north of the capitalSukkur . Pakistan's largest cantonment is located in Pano Akil. The "Mohalla s" in this city include Indher Colony, Basheerabad, Shaikh Muhalla, Mandar Gali, Masan Muhalla, Gharibabad, Bashirabad, Irrigation Colony. It consists of 12 union councils and 516 villages.People
The city is like most towns of Sindh, its citizens are kind and hospitable by nature. The literacy rate is low and tribal rivalries have led to violence and gun crime.
Accessibility
The city can be accessed by railas it is located on the main railway line of Pakistan, the national highway also passes by the west of the city providing easy access by car. Similarly, public transport is freely available for travel to and from various cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Sukkur etc. Sukkur Airport is half an hours driving distance from the city. The city is connected via a grid of roads and streets, most accessible by car. Mustafai Choke, Baiji Choke, Saduja Choke, Eid Gah Choke, Sanwal Waro Choke and Garibabad chowk are the major bus stops of the city.
Economy
Pano Akil is basically an agricultural area as its land is fertile while water is also available in appropriate quantity.But some agro-based industries including Mahar Cotton Factory, Habib cotton(Indher Colony), Mahar Floor Mill, Najeeb Boon Mills, Bhutto Group of Industries, Wood Factories and Fruit Farm.It supplies major amount of vegetables, fruits and cotton crops to the other parts of country.
Education
The educational facilities at Pano Akil are basic. The Garrison School and College provide the only acceptable education in the city.Mehran Model School, Roshan Tara School, Al-Shahabaz, Govt Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools, Degree College Pano Akil are a few of the other institutions. Due to the paucity of good schools a lot of children go to schools in nearby Sukkur.
Demographics
Pano Akil's estimated population is 245,187 in an area of 1233 square miles. Sayed, Abbasi, Jatoi, Qazi, Bhayaa, Chachar, Samejo, Indher, Shaikh, Kalhora, Bhutto, Mahar,Kalwar, Channa, Arain, Simair, Sahito, Soomra, Mahesar, Korai, Bulla, Mirani, Bhellar, Muhammadi, Lanjar and other tribes live in the taluka. Population wise, the Chachar tribe is in majority. The Besides a major population of Hindu community and some Christian families also have residence and business in the city.
