Riverside Military Academy was chartered in 1906 and opened for classes in September 1908. Its founders were Professors
Haywood Jefferson Pearce andAzor W. Van Hoose, Jr. , longtime proprietors of all-female Brenau College in Gainesville. In 1913, a young educator namedSandy Beaver became president of the academy, and in 1915 he gained ownership of it. Beaver would go on to run Riverside for the next 56 years.
