Julian Croft

Julian Croft (born 31 May, 1941 in Merewether, New South Wales) is an Australian poet. He was raised in Newcastle, New South Wales and educated there at Newcastle Boy's High School and Newcastle University, where he completed a Master of Arts. His MA research was on Kenneth Slessor and Fitzgerald.

Croft travelled in Africa and Europe before returning to Australia. Then he worked as a lecturer at the University of New England (Armidale, NSW, Australia) from 1970 to his retirement in 2002. Croft is presently Emeritus Professor in the School of English, Communication and Theatre at UNE. [ [http://www.une.edu.au/ect/staff/jcroft.php University profile] ]

Croft is also a novelist and a researcher of Australian literature, Anglo-Welsh poetry, West African literature, Australian film, and American literature.

Croft's study of the Australian novelist Joseph Furphy won the McCrae Russell prize in 1991.
