The City of Nottingham Fire Brigade and the Nottinghamshire Fire Brigade were created under the Fire Services Act 1947.
In 1974 the two brigades were merged. Since 1998 when Nottingham became a separate local government area, the service has been run by a joint fire authority made up of councillors from Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.
Fire Stations
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service operates 24 fire stations:
- 3 Wholetime only fire stations
- 8 Joint Wholetime/Retained fire stations,
- 13 Retained fire stations
The Service is divided into 4 Operational Groups:
- North East - Bassetlaw District (Worksop, Retford, Harworth, Misterton, Tuxford) and Newark & Sherwood District (Newark, Collingham, Southwell
- North West Mansfield District (Mansfield, Warsop, Blidworth, Edwinstowe) and Ashfield (Ashfield, Hucknall)
- Nottingham City - Stockhill and Central
- South - Rushcliffe (West Bridgford, Bingham, East Leake), Gedling (Arnold, Carlton) and Broxtowe (Highfields, Stapleford, Eastwood)
