The gmina covers an area of convert|127.17|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 12,790 (out of which the population of Wasilków amounts to 8,967, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 3,823).

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Puszcza Knyszyńska Landscape Park.
