The plan was to become the best courtroom lawyer Canada ever had. Instead, those debating skills turned Jane Hawtin, first, into a dynamic radio personality, and then, into the hottest talker on television with Jane Hawtin Live, a national daily talk show on WTN.
Hawtin, whose radio career began over 20 years ago, became one of Canada’s first female major market newscasters and Canada’s first female major market news director. Respected for her integrity, loved for her passion (and her laugh), Hawtin was twice nominated for ACTRA Awards, once nominated for a Gemini for best host/interviewer and is a recipient of the Holobon Award for excellence in Medical and Science Reporting. In 1998 she received a Gemini nomination as Best Host, Anchor or Interviewer in a News or Information Program or Series, for Jane Hawtin Live, described as "the most intelligent program in daytime". Jane’s hard-hitting speeches combine her warmth, intelligence and sense of humour, which enable her to tackle any topic with superb thoroughness and dynamic style.
Most recently, Jane executive produced and hosted the innovative radio program, "Stranded", for CBC radio. Jane is also the permanent fill-in host on CBC's Metro Morning, Here and Now and is the Friday host of The Current on CBC's national flagship show.
