After a Kentucky victory over the Ole Miss Rebels, Patterson missed the remainder of the 2007-2008 season with a stress fracture in his left ankle. He also claimed he planned on staying at Kentucky rather than participating in the NBA draft.

During the 2007-2008 season, Patterson averaged 16.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, while shooting 57% from the field.
