proteobacteria .It was isolated by Zhang "et al." [cite journal |title="Burkholderia kururiensis" sp. nov., a trichloroethylene (TCE)-degrading bacterium isolated from an aquifer polluted with TCE |journal=International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology |volume=50 |pages=743–749 |year=2000 |unused_data=Zhang, "et al." ] from a
groundwater sample in Japan. The sample was heavily contaminated with the industrialsolvent Trichloroethylene (TCE), which "Burkholderia kururiensis" degraded.Phenotypic Characteristics
Phenotypically, "B. kururiensis" is a
Gram negative bacterium with an oval cell morphology. It was found to metabolise simple sugars such asmannose ,glucose ,galactose andmaltose , as well as alcohols such asglycerol ,inositol andmannitol .Genotypic Characteristics
Genotypically, studies of 16s ribosomal RNA suggested "B. kururiensis" belonged to the "genus" "Burkholderia". The G+C total DNA content was measured as 64.8 mol %, as perhaps would be expected for
proteobacteria .Type Strain
Based on information gathered during phenotypic and genotypic analysis, the KP23T strain isolated by Zhang "et al." was reckoned to be a new
species in thegenus , and the name "Burkholderiales kururiensis" was proposed. The type strain is KP23T (= JCM 10599).References
