Currently, John F. Kennedy High School has slightly over 400 students. It is the only co-educational Catholic High School in West County, St. Louis, Missouri. The school has an expanding technology program and all students receive laptops. Kennedy Catholic offers a wide variety of extracuricular options, including many athletic teams and clubs. Kennedy recently renovated its entire campus with its first capitol campaign in 40 years, raising over $1 million. The newly remodeled building is still in construction with their new entrance, which will be completed in early October of 2008. Kennedy Catholic High School is known for its open community, where all the students feel welcome. Because of its small size, students who participate in sports have a larger advantage because nearly everyone is able to participate in the sport they choose.
The girl's varsity tennis team recently became district champions in 2007, as an undefeated team. This is the first time in the school's history that the tennis team has won.
A running joke that occurs throughout the school is due to the fact that there are no windows in the classrooms, so many students feel as if they are in "jail cells." Also, there have been reports that Kennedy is haunted and that many supernatural events have occurred at Kennedy. When the school first began, three girls were struck by lightning and killed past the football field. Many students believed that the girls are still haunting the school. Current students are not as superstitious and many of these ideas have faded.
Kennedy students can also participate in one of the areas best threatre programs. There is a fall play and a spring musical put into performance every school year. Much hard work is put into effect through the cast, crew, and directors, and audiences are always awed at the quality of the performances.
