Aluminum disc

Aluminum disc

An aluminum disc (or aluminum disk) is a disc (disk) made out of aluminum and is used as a transcription disc in magnetic recording media, specifically early radio recordings. [http://www.midcoast.com/~lizmcl/earlyradio.html "Documenting Early Radio: A Review of Existing Pre-1932 Radio Recordings"] , Elizabeth McLeod, 1988-9] Aluminum discs are also used in hard disk (as "platters"), shock tubes, and other manufacturing processes.

In 1934, the Pyral Company in France, and the Presto Corporation in the United States, independently created the acetate disc by applying a layer of lacquer onto an aluminum disc.
