One night, Jerry rescues a drowning sack of puppies thrown from a car, including one who licks him repeatedly. Jerry tries to fit him into his hole, but he is too big. Jerry then lets him into the house, where the puppy laps some of Tom's milk. Jerry hides the puppy before Tom wakes up, imitates a puppy, and runs off. Tom chases Jerry, but soon finds that the puppy is stealing his milk. Tom cannot stop the puppy from drinking his milk, and when Tom confronts the puppy, he gets a licking. Tom puts the puppy outside, but Jerry scoops him up and stores him in a drawer. Once Jerry is down from the stool he was on, he finds the puppy has escaped. He is sleeping on Tom's bed, and when he takes the cat's blanket, it causes Tom to sneeze shortly after he finds his blanket is missing. Tom pokes the puppy and gets licked again. Tom takes the blanket and throws the puppy outside, where it falls into a bottle. Jerry uses the windowsill string to free him, but is met by Tom soon after. Jerry presents the puppy and he licks Tom again.
Tom chases Jerry, who is holding the puppy, around the kitchen, until he trips them up with a sponge and they careen through the door. Tom goes to sleep, but is soon awakened by a sudden thunderstorm and he realizes that both Jerry and the little puppy are out there. He tries to ignore it and relax, but he was so worried that the thunderstorm might kill poor Jerry and the little puppy! When Tom ventures out in the thunderstorm to find Jerry and the little puppy, he gets caught up in the thunderstorm and almost ends up sacrificing himself. Fortunately, his whistling wakes up the puppy (who is living in a storm drain together with Jerry) and together they save the cat.
Jerry heats up a can of soup and feeds it to the frozen Tom, but when this fails to rouse him, the puppy licks him. Tom gives the puppy a bed and a bowl of milk. The puppy calls for his siblings and they all share the milk as Tom and Jerry look on.
