Mayureswar ( _bn. ময়ূরেশ্বর) is a town with a police station, community development block and an assembly constituency in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Demographics

Mayureswar has two community development blocks.

Mayureswar I

Mayureswar II
In the 2001 census, Mayureswar II community development block had a population of 113,050 out of which 58,175 were males and 54,875 were females.

Administration

Mayureswar I and II are intermediate panchayats (local self government) under Birbhum Zilla Parishad. Village panchayats under Mayureswar I intermediate panchayat are: Bajitpur, Baraturigram, Dabuk, Dakshingram, Jhikodda, Kanachi, Mollarpur I and II, and Talowan. Village panchayats under Mayureswar II intermediate panchayat are: Daspalsa, Dheka, Kaleswar, Kundola, Mayureswar, Satpalsa and Ulkunda. Politics

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Sadhu Charan Bagdi of CPI(M) won the Mayureswar (SC) assembly seat, polling 66,814 votes, against 29,813 votes polled by his nearest rival Subhas Chandra Mondal of BJP. Culture

Lalit Mohan saha son of late Jagabandhu saha,location near mayureswar police station. He is a famous singer, also teacher of music.

Temple

Fairs

Poush Sankranti fair is held at Shibpur in the Mayureswar police station. Shivratri fair is held at Dabuk. Gosaidas fair is held at Dakshingram. Dharma pujo fair is held at Ratma on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
