Bubble pushing

Bubble pushing

Bubble pushing is a technique used to transform certain gates into others - usually NANDs to ORs and NORs to ANDs. The technique can also be used to simplify the logic of a combinational circuit. The rule is that pushing one "bubble" (circle representing NOT) from each input changes the gate (AND to OR or OR to AND) and yields one bubble on the output. One can also do the reverse.

For XOR to XNOR, pushing one bubble from one of the inputs yields one bubble on the output. The reverse holds as well.
