Education

Hockering Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School is a small village school which takes children from Hockering and surrounding villages. It has a friendly, family atmosphere and its small, mixed-age classes enable children to receive a personalised education appropriate to their ability. An Ofsted inspection in January 2008 rated Hockering Primary School as satisfactory or better in all respects. It was scored good for children's personal development and for care, guidance and support, and outstanding for children's behaviour and enjoyment of education. Amenities

Hockering has a fairly good range of facilities for a village of its size. As well as the school, it has a village hall and a church (C of E), dedicated to St Michael. It has a playing field and playground, run by a voluntary committee. Hockering Motor Services provides car repairs and MOT tests, and also runs a shop and a sub-Post Office. The Post Office is especially important locally as it is the only one in a village on the A47 main road between Norwich and Dereham and is thus easily accessible to people living in a wide area round Hockering.

Transport

Hockering is just off the A47 between Norwich and Dereham. It is served by the First Eastern Counties X1 bus service from Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Norwich to Dereham, King's Lynn and Peterborough.

Administration

The parish lies in the Elmham and Mattishall division of Norfolk County Council and is currently represented by a Conservative councillor, Ingrid Floering-Blackman. It is within the Two Rivers ward of the Breckland local government district, which is currently represented by two Conservative councillors, Paul Claussen and Brian Rose.
