Most recently, he was the manager ofClub América , theMexico City squad who participate in theMexican First Division . As a manager, Tena has obtained two titles: withCruz Azul in 1997 (the last Mexican league title that Cruz Azul has won) and in 2000 with Morelia.After retiring as a player, Tena began his coaching career in 1994 with Cruz Azul, a squad which he has guided on three separate occasions. Aside from his aforementioned stints at Cruz Azul and Morelia, Tena has coached
Santos Laguna ,Jaguares de Chiapas andUAG Tecos . His brother,Alfredo Tena , a former Club América player and manager, served as an assistant coach for Luis. OnMarch 16 ,2008 Tena was named the new coach ofMonarcas Morelia .
