Southeastern Collegiate Roller Hockey League

Southeastern Collegiate Roller Hockey League

The Southeastern Collegiate Roller Hockey League (SECRHL) is a member organization of the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association. The league first began in 1998 as the SECRHA (Southeastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) and was founded by Christopher Bristow (NC State University), who served as it's commissioner for three years. In the first year, NC State University, Duke University, University of North Carolina, East Carolina University, Elon University, Clemson University, UNC Charlotte, Emory University, and Georgia Tech participated in league tournaments. By Bristow's third year as commissioner, the SECHRA had organized a regular season schedule with games each weekend held in Raleigh, NC. At this time, the league included teams from NC State University, Duke University, University of North Carolina, Elon University, and East Carolina University. At Bristow's departure in 2001, JR Shortall (Elon University) took over responsibilities as commissioner and the name of the league was changed to the ACRHA (Atlantic Coast Roller Hockey Association). Soon thereafter, the league joined the NCRHA (National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) and became an official region, sending representatives to its National Championship. In 2005 the league briefly changed its name back to the SECRHA, but in 2006 became the SECHRL which it has held to this day.
