Valerie Lloyd (Welsh politician)

Valerie (Val) Lloyd born in Swansea, is a Welsh Labour Party politician who has been a Member of the National Assembly for Wales for Swansea East since 2001.

Education

Swansea High School for Girls and University of Wales, Swansea.

Professional career

Nurse in the primary and tertiary sectors in London, Swansea and Zambia. School teacher in Swansea and Bahrain. Lecturer in nursing at School of Health Science, University of Wales, Swansea.

Political career

Previously a Councillor in the City and County of Swansea, Val was elected as the Member of the National Assembly for Wales for Swansea East in the Assembly's first By-Election, 27 September 2001. She was Chair of the South West Wales Regional Committee in the First Assembly and of the Smoking in Public Places Committee in the Second Assembly.
