It is native only to a few river systems, including the Eno River in North Carolina and the [Roanoke River|Roanoke River] inVirginia andNorth Carolina ."A. cavifrons" reaches a maximum recorded overall length of 36 cm (14 in) and a maximum recorded weight of 620 g (1.4 lb).
It prefers clear, rocky creeks and pools.
The Roanoke bass is considered Vulnerable because its very small range renders it sensitive to danger from human activity.
