The defense industry of Azerbaijan was established in 2005 by presidential decree, the new Defense Industries Ministry, headed by Yavar Jamalov, incorporated the State Departments for Military Industry and for Armaments and the Military Science Center, each of which was formerly a separate agency within the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry. The Azerbaijani defense industry is endowed with between $60-70 million in state funding, but was funded with $600 million for 2007. The defense industry of Azerbaijan manufactures armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, as well as small calibre artillery guns [ [http://www.un-az.org/undp/bulnews55/en3.php Azerbaijan manufacturing arms] ] .The defense industry has emerged as an autonomous entity with a growing defense production capability.
