Jana Bennett OBE is Director of Vision at the
BBC . She took up the post in 2006, having been Director of Television from April 2002. She was previously executive vice president and general manager atDiscovery Communications in the US.Born in Cooperstown, New York State, Bennett moved to Britain in 1969, and first joined the BBC in 1979. She worked on various news and current affairs programmes before becoming editor of "Horizon" in 1990. In 1994 she was appointed Head of Science, and was awarded an OBE in 2000 for her work in science broadcasting.
Bennett was promoted from Director of Television to Director of Vision when the new BBC Vision group was formed by combining the corporation's Television, Drama Entertainment & Children's and Factual & Learning divisions. She has "overall creative and leadership responsibility" for BBC One, BBC Two, the digital channels BBC Three and BBC Four, and BBC America. She also heads commissioning within the four "genre-led" groups: Fiction, Knowledge, Children's and Entertainment, as well as all in-house TV and multi-media content going through BBC Vision Studios.
Bennett is married to Richard Clemmow, managing director of the Juniper TV production company. The couple have two children.
