Regional cup best = The Cape Verde national football team, nicknamed either Tubarões Azuis (Blue Sharks) or Crioulos (Creoles), is the national team of Cape Verde and is controlled by the Federação Caboverdiana de Futebol. It has never made the World Cup or the African Nations Cup. The team almost qualified for the African Nations Cup in 2006, at one time lying second in their qualifying group behind South Africa

For the first time, on November 2, 2002, it faced a non-African team, Luxembourg, in a friendly, resulting in a scoreless draw.
