He was born in Los Angeles, California, the second son of film star Robert Mitchum and his wife Dorothy. He is also the younger brother of actor James Mitchum.
Mitchum's early work included a small role in the movie Chisum (1970), as well as co-starring roles in Rio Lobo (1970) and Big Jake (1971). His later acting career has featured several B-movie roles and lesser known movie roles.
He is the father of actor Bentley Mitchum and Carrie Mitchum. He is also the grandfather of Cappy Van Dien and Grace Van Dien; both of whom were seen in the series I Married a Princess.
Political Involvement
Mitchum was the Republican nominee in the 1998 general election for the California State Assembly in the 35th District, which included portions of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. He lost the election to Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson.
