Jimmy Wayne was born Oct. 23, 1972, in Cleveland County, N.C. He endured a tumultuous childhood, as his father abandoned the family when Wayne was a toddler, and his mother was in and out of prison twice. Wayne was in numerous foster homes in his life. He was sure his life would never change, so he decided to chage it himself. Once, in a desperate attempt to change his life, he swallowed half a bottle of pills and waited. Nothing happened so he decided life must be worth living if for some reason his life was spared. Growing up in foster homes, Wayne became an avid journal-keeper, using writing as a way of therapy. Living on the streets at 16 and a high school dropout, he was hired by an elderly couple to cut their grass, and eventually, they invited him to move into their home. With a stable home life, Wayne went back to high school and worked his way through community college, earning an associate's degree in criminal justice. After working in the North Carolina prison system, Wayne moved to Nashville to pursue a music career.
Musical career
He was living in Nashville when he was discovered by calling into "The Bob and Sheri show". Jimmy called in and told his story about trying to get a record deal and was heard by someone listening that worked at
DreamWorks Records .Before signing to
DreamWorks Records in 2001, Wayne co-wrote the song "Put Your Hand in Mine", which was recorded byTracy Byrd on his 1999 album "It's About Time" and released as a single. Wayne released his debut album, "Jimmy Wayne", in 2003. It produced four hit singles on the country music charts: the Top Ten hits "Stay Gone" and "I Love You This Much", as well as "You Are" and "Paper Angels", both of which peaked in the Top 20.After DreamWorks closed in 2005, Wayne was transferred to
Big Machine Records . Between 2006 and 2007, he released two singles for the label (including the #50-peaking "That's All I'll Ever Need") but no album. The other single, "I'll Never Leave You", failed to enter the country music charts. By 2008, he had transferred to Valory, a subsidiary of Big Machine; his first single for Valory, "Do You Believe Me Now", entered the country charts in April 2008 and became his third Top Ten in August 2008. A second studio album, titled "Do You Believe Me Now ", was released on August 26, 2008.
