For the Eurovision Song Contest 1999, Belgium entered "Like The Wind", performed by Vanessa Chinitor. It received 38pts, and finished joint-12th with the United Kingdom.

Before the Final, Belgium hosted three Semifinals over consecutive Sundays in February. All three shows were held at the VRT TV Studios in Schelle, and were all hosted by Bart Peeters. The winning song from each Semifinal qualified for the Final, as did the highest-scoring runner-up. The voting consisted of five juries: an expert jury, a Radio 2 jury, a Radio Donna jury, a European jury, and televoting. One of the members of the expert jury was Liliane Saint Pierre, who represented the country in 1987.
