Cork (H)Inter-county titles Football Hurling Munster Titles 1 1 All-Ireland Titles 1 1 Derry Beckett (born 1918 in Glanmire, County Cork) was an Irish sportsperson. He played both hurling and football with Cork in the 1940s.
Derry Beckett is one of only eighteen dual players to have won All-Ireland medals in both hurling and football.[1] His sporting exploits began in 1942 when he won a Munster Hurling Championship medal with the great Cork side of the decade. In the subsequent All-Ireland final against Dublin Beckett, who was playing in the left corner-forward position, scored a crucial goal to seal the victory for Cork. It was Cork's second All-Ireland victory in a run of four.
Three years later in 1945 Beckett won a Munster Football Championship medal with the Cork senior football team. Cork subsequently defeated Cavan in the All-Ireland final, giving Beckett, who was playing at left corner-forward once again, an All-Ireland football medal to add to his collection.
