Simon Halabi

Simon Halabi

Simon Halabi is a Syrian-born businessman based in the United Kingdom.

His business interests include health club chain Esporta and the PM Club based at Cambridge House in London and at Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire. Neither of the last two have yet opened. Esporta suffered financial problems in 2007.

For a while, he owned a one-third stake in London Bridge Tower, but left the project after a dispute with one of the partners.

In June 2008 the Mentmore Towers project, which Halibi bought in 2001, ran into problems, and opening is likely to be delayed. The most recent project architects initiated court proceedings in relation to a claim for unpaid fees.

During summer 2008 English Heritage ranked three of Halibi's assets as "Buildings at Risk" showing their concern about the future for the important listed buildings concerned, and their maintenance.

In the "Sunday Times Rich List 2007" he was ranked 14th with an estimated fortune of £3 billion, but the credit crunch since that time has affected his estimated wealth considerably.
