St Helen's (previously known as the Aviva Tower or the Commercial Union building) is a skyscraper in the City of London. It is convert|118|m|ft|0 tall and has 23 floors, as well as podium and mezzanine levels. It was completed in 1969. It was damaged in the Bishopsgate bombings by Irish terrorists, and completely re-glazed and re-clad as a result. It was designed by GMW Architects: the stark rectilinear geometry and detailing of the building was influenced by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. It was built by Taylor Woodrow Construction. In May 2007, it was reported that Simon Halabi was considering plans to demolish the building and replace it with a much taller tower. Halabi owned a one-third stake in the Shard of Glass being planned at London Bridge, but pulled out.
