Anthiro

Anthiro (Greek, Modern: Ανθηρό, Katharevousa: -όν), older form: Anthiron, also with the o accented is a Greek mountainous village located 75 km west of Karditsa in the western part of the Karditsa Prefecture. Anthiro is also the seat of the municipality of Argithea. Anthiro had a population of in 2001. Anthiro is located 60 km west of Karditsa, 50 km from Mouzaki and 36 km south of Pyli Trikalon. Anthiro is connected in the narrow-laned treacherous GR-30 (Arta - Karditsa).

Its residents are based in agriculture which includes honey production. In the village features a museum. Near the village has the Korakos bridge which was built in the 12th century and the Kleftovryssi and Stavro bridges.

Population

The village saw a great decline in population between 1981 and 1991 by emigration and the aging population, the population growth was restored between the census of 1991 and 2001.

Anthiro has a school, a lyceum (middle school), and its gymnasium (secondary school), churches, and a square ("plateia").
