width=250This article lists Brazilian states by Gross Domestic Product. As of 2007, Brazil has a total gross domestic product (GDP) of R$ 2.558 trillion or (at purchasing power parity (PPP)) roughly US$ 1.881 trillion, ranking 8th in the world. GDP per capita — essentially total GDP divided by population — for Brazil is R$ 13.515 or US$ 9,695, ranking 65th worldwide. While Brazil's twenty-six states and the Federal District exhibit high GDPs, there is wide variation among them. São Paulo, the country's most populous state, is a manufacturing and trade locus with extensive linkages to the Mercosur; if compared to countries, São Paulo's GDP would rank 22th largest in the world. Conversely, territorial GDPs are comparable to those of smaller island nations and, in turn, smaller than many larger Brazilian cities and towns.

The Southeast and South Regions increased their participation in the economy of the country, which continued concentrated: seven states (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Bahia and Santa Catarina) represented more than 75% of the Gross Domestic Product of Brazil. The major GDP per capita continued to be the one of the Federal District (R$ 34,510 or US$ 15,102) which, in 2005, in the previous series, represented twice of the Brazilian series and changed to 2.9 times in the new series. The second major result was recorded by São Paulo (R$ 17,977 or US$ 7,867), surpassing Rio de Janeiro, now in 3rd position (R$ 16,052 or US$ 7,024). The other states with GDP per capita above the Brazilian average were Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.

The Regional Accounts 2005, published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in partnership with the state governments and the SUFRAMA (Superintendence of the Free Trade Zone of Manaus) calculated in regional level the great changes of the National Accounts published in March and November 2007. The main revision of procedures was the use of data which came from the annual structural surveys of the IBGE (PIA, PAC, PAS and PAIC) for the calculation of the GDP of the states.
