The Gulf and Florida Northern Railroad Company was incorporated under Florida state law chapter 4262, approved May 22, 1893, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point on St. Andrews bay, Washington county, to the Alabama and Florida State line, in Holmes county, with branches to Wewahitchka, St. Joseph and Apalachicola; also a branch from Wewahitchka to the Alabama state line in Jackson county, through the corporate limits of the town of Marianna, in the State of Florida.
Land grants
The railroad was promised land grants, provided that construction began within six months of the act and completion within four years. The railroad was to be standard gauge.
Owners
The company was owned by Horace Tucker, H. H. Brown, Andrew Relm, J. G. Fuller, of the state of Illinois; John E. Cailey, W. H. Milton, Jr., M. L. Dekle, James F. Glen and John H. Dawson, of the State of Florida.
