coordinates=The Fulton Road Bridge was a two-lane bridge in
Cleveland, Ohio . Built in 1932 and dedicated in mid-May of that year, the 75-year-old bridge had been deteriorating for years and has beendemolished and is in the process of being replaced. The bridge was originally 6 lanes, but two were later taken off, making it a four-lane bridge. More recently, before it was closed, two more lanes were closed, but not taken down. It was then two lanes, with two more blocked off, and with a sidewalk on each side. The bridge was closed on October 5th 2006, and the new bridge is scheduled to open in late 2008/early 2009. Plans include similar supports, arch- or Y-styled, to appear similar to the old bridge. The bridge spans theCleveland Metroparks Zoo , Big Creek (part of theCleveland Metroparks ' Brookside Reservation), John Nagy Boulevard, and Norfolk Southern and CSX railroad tracks.Demolition
Before the demolition occurred, the bridge had gone through some deconstruction, mainly of the deck. The final implosion was scheduled to occur on Saturday April 28th, at 8:00 AM, but a detonation cable failure resulted in only about a quarter of the bridge being knocked down.
On Tuesday, May 1st, just after 6 PM, the remainder of the bridge was demolished, leaving only the arch supports at the ends.
