The
zoo inAlexandria is the second largest zoo inEgypt , after theGiza Zoo in Cairo. Despite having numerous rare andendangered species on display, the zoo does not effectively educate its visitors; its main priority is leisure.For a cheap entrance fee, guests can walk around the zoo and view a selection of animals from around the world - and for a small extra charge, most of them can be fed or can even be ridden.The species on display include:
Asian Elephant , CommonHippopotamus , Lions, Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Striped Hyenas, California Sealions, Giraffes, Zebras,Nilgai , Scimitar Horned Oryx, a selection of bears (including apolar bear ) and numerous species ofmonkey .There is also areptile house, a museum and a 'birds and small mammals' section of the zoo. The reptile house is home to several endemic Egyptian species, including theEgyptian Cobra , theNile Crocodile and thecritically endangered Egyptian Tortoise .Location
