History

The Salt Lake City Children's Choir was founded in the fall of 1979 by Ralph B. Woodward. Originally called "The Wasatch Children", the choir had its first performance in a library auditorium.The Salt Lake Children's Choir was established in the fall of 1979 in order to extend the community's musical heritage.

Membership

The members of the Salt Lake Children's Choir generally range in age from 8-16 years old and come from around the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas. Membership is by audition only.

tructure

The Choir is structured into two groups. The "Wednesday Choir" is a group for less experienced singers, and the "Tuesday Choir" is the more advanced group. The names refer to the days each group practices. Chorally, the Choir consists of first and second sopranos and first and second altos.

Repertoire

The Choir puts emphasis on natural vocal production and works of the Classical era, as well as contemporary and folk music from around the world. Much of the music is written by Ralph B. Woodward.

* "A Day in Spring" - General repertoire
* "NOEL" - Christmas repertoire - This album consists of songs recorded live in the Salt Lake Cathedral of the Madeleine from 1998-2006. It is designed to give the listener the experience of attending the choir's annual Christmas concert.
