Max Lifchitz

Max Lifchitz

Max Lifchitz (b. Mexico City, Mexico, 1948) is a classical pianist, composer, and conductor.

He was born and grew up in Mexico City. Following one year of study in Mexico, he came to the United States in 1966 and studied at the Juilliard School, Harvard University, and the University of Michigan.

In 1980, he founded the North/South Consonance Ensemble, which is dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music from the Americas; he serves as the ensemble's director.

He has served on the faculty of Columbia University and the University at Albany, The State University of New York.

He has performed frequently in Latin America and is the executor of the estate of Mexican composer Carlos Chávez.
