Thomas William Foster was a first class cricketer who played 13 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1894 and 1895. He also played a first class game for XI of Yorkshire against XI of Lancashire in 1894 and for Yorkshire Second XI in 1893.
A talented right arm medium pacer, he took 58 wickets at just 16.41 with a remarkable best of 9 for 59 against M.C.C. at Lord's in 1894. Despite his heroics in M.C.C.'s first innings, Yorkshire lost the game by 4 wickets. His strike rate of a wicket every 33.62 balls ranks with the best in the game, even during this early era of occasionally roughly prepared and weather affected pitches. He took 5 wickets in an innings 5 times and 10 wickets in match on 3 occasions. He took 7 for 56 against Warwickshire CCC.
A right handed tail ender, he scored 138 runs at 9.2 with a top score of 25.
He was actually a Lancastrian, born on November 12, 1871 in Birkdale, Lancashire. He died on January 31, 1947 in Dewsbury, Yorkshire.
