History
The delivery of the Di 2 stretched between 1954 and 1973 in two series. Series 1 consisted of six units built by MaK in Kiel, Germany in 1954 and 1957 and two units by Thune in Oslo. All the eight first locomotives had a six-cylinder MaK engine at 423 kW. But NSB wanted more diesel-powered shunters so Bergen Diesel/Bergen Mekaniske Verksted developed a diesel engine for the purpose, type LT 6 and from 1961 Thune started delivery of the Series 2 with BMV engines with a new batch being delivered from 1973, in total 46 engines in second series. At first the Di 2 engines were painted green, but later when NSB chose to paint their entire fleet red, the Di 2 engines were also converted to red. In the 1980s the Di 2 units were painted the distinct red and yellow shunter colors of NSB. Di 2 854 was in 1997 rebuilt in the Netherlands to Skd 225 with a new Caterpillar engine and drivers cab. Two engines are today in use for the emergency train for Romeriksporten.
