Inman Middle School

Samuel Martin Inman Middle School is a public, co-education middle school located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Inman is located in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood and also serves Morningside-Lenox Park, Midtown Atlanta, Inman Park, Lake Claire, Candler Park, Ansley Park, and the Atlanta portion of Druid Hills.

History

Inman Middle School began as an elementary school in the year 1924, named after Samuel Martin Inman (b. 1843 d. 1915), a successful cotton merchant from Tennessee. The school has been enlarged a number of times since its construction, and in 1978, Inman was converted into a middle school.Since 2004, Betsy Bockman has been principal of the school.

Programs

Inman is has a variety of clubs, music programs, organizations and sports. Over 50% of all students participate in Inman's music programs, including concert bands, jazz band, orchestra and chorus. The athletic department offers football, boys' and girls' basketball, track, soccer, tennis and girls' fast-pitch softball and volleyball. The school also offers over 30 extracurricular clubs like the Knitting Club, Photography Club, Literary Club, Yearbook, Debate Team, Outward Bound, Beta Club, Robotics, Computer Club and more. Spanish, German, and French are languages offered at Inman.

Achievements

*Inman's Robotics Team has won several awards in FIRST Lego League competitions.
*Inman is a National School of Excellence and a Georgia School of Excellence.
*Inman won its division in the Quiz Bowl Competition sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.
*Inman placed fourth in the nation in the National Academic League competition.
*Inman exceeded every state CRCT score in every grade for language arts, reading, math, science and social studies.
*2002 state writing scores topped 98% for 8th grade writing scores.
*Inman sixth graders excelled in the 2002 CRCT with scores of 94% for reading, 87% for language arts and 87% for math.
*Over one third of Inman's students participate in the Gifted and Talented Program.
*Inman's debate team won over 100 medals, more than any other school competing in the city wide meet.
*Inman's Junior Beta Club raised over 15,000 pounds of food for the Atlanta Food Bank with plans for a spring book drive for schools with needy media centers.
*Band, orchestra and chorus regularly earn superior ratings at the annual citywide music festival.
*Inman's girls' soccer team went undefeated in 2003 earning a number 1 rating.
*Inman's boys' soccer team finished second in the North Georgia Soccer Championship.
*Inman's chess team won the Atlanta Public Schools Chess Tournament, as well as the First Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Chess Tournament.
*Inman swept the annual City Science/Math Congress with six gold keys and took top honors in every category.
*Inman took home 11 first place, 3 second place, and 2 third place awards from the City Social Science Fair.
*Inman's photography club has been supported by a grant from the Arthur Blank Foundation for three years in a row and mounted an exhibition at the Federal Reserve Bank gallery.
