Political career
He was first elected in the
National Assembly for Wales election of 2003 , succeedingTom Middlehurst who stood down.In the Third Assembly he was appointed
Chief Whip of the Labour Group and a Deputy Welsh Minister for Assembly Business in theWelsh Assembly Government (31 May 2007 ). He retained the position of LabourChief Whip when the coalition government of Labour andPlaid Cymru was announced on19 July . Although not a member of the Welsh Assembly Government, he will attend Cabinet.External links
