"Pseudomonas nitroreducens" is an aerobic, Gram-negative soil bacterium first isolated from oil brine in Japan [cite journal |author=Iizuka, H., and Komagata, K. |title=Microbiological studies on petroleum and natural gas. I. Determination of hydrocarbon-utilizing bacteria |journal=J of Gen and Appl Microbio |volume=10 | pages=207–221 |year=1964 ] . It is able to synthesise polyhydroxybutyrate homopolymer (a polyester) from medium chain length fatty acids [Yao J, Zhang G, Wu Q, Chen GQ, Zhang R.
