There are 11 radio stations in Bangalore.They are - Radio city 91.1fm, Radio indigo 91.9fm, Big 92.7fm, S fm93.5, Radio one fm94.3, Radio mirchi 98.3fm, Fever 104fm, Fm Rainbow 101.3, Vividh Bharati 102.9fm, Gyanvani 105.6 fm, Amrutavarshini 100.1fm .Besides these there is one community radio station by name Radio Active 107.8fm

Radio City

[http://www.radiocity.in Radio city] is the first private fm radio station to come to Bangalore and Radio City Bangalore is the first Private FM Station of India. It was started on July 3 2001 with the frequency 91 fm. On October 30 2006 it changed to the frequency 91.1fm.It is broadcast for 24hrs.It is controlled by Music Broadcast India Private Limited.Initially Radio City used to broadcast Hindi, Kannada and English music. They gave more preference to Hindi music. But after some time they just broadcasted Hindi and Kannada Music, Since some government rules did not allow them to broadcast English music. After some time the rule got revised and radio city started broadcasting English music also. They gave less preference to kannada music until some private radio stations were started. The other private radio stations like Big, Sfm became popular since they played more kannada music. When Radio cities popularity came down they realised the importance of kannada music. Now they are playing more Kannada music and less Hindi music. They have stopped playing English music.RJs: Radio city RJs are really one of the best RJs in town.RJs like Chaitanya Hegde, Vasanti Hariprakash, Nanda, Kiran Sridhar, Fiona, Sunaina Lal, Darius, Cindu, Rohit Barker, Saggy, Vinayak Joshi, Varsha are really fantastic RJs. FM Rainbow & Vividh Bharati

Fm Rainbow was launched on September 1 2001, while Vividh Bharati on November 1 2001. Both are broadcast for 17 hrs from 6am to 11pm.Tagline: KANNADA KAMANABILLU

Gyanvani

Amrutavarshini

Radio Mirchi

[http://www.radiomirchi.com Radio Mirchi] is the 6th radio station launched on April 17 2006 with the frequency 93.3fm.On August 1 2006 it changed to the frequency 98.3fm.It is broadcast for 24hrs.It is controlled by Entertainmment network India Limited.Radio Mirchi initially played 24 hour Hindi Music. Even though programming was good and RJs were super Radio Mirchi was not a popular station in Bangalore. Because it played only Hindi Music, also the station was not clearly audible in all places. But after some time they improved their station quality. Soon when many other private radio stations came to bangalore, competition increased and stations like Big, Sfm played more kannada music. They became most popular radio stations in Bangalore. By seeing this Radio Mirchi started to play Kannada music. Initially they played less Kannada Music, But soon they started playing more kannada music with tagline INNU HECHAGI KANNADA HAADUGALU. Soon they became very popular. By seeing this they started playing 24 hours kannada songs. Only on Saturday night from 9pm to 1am they play Hindi songs.Now Radio Mirchi is the No.1 radio station in Bangalore.RJs: Radio Mirchi RJs are really wonderful RJs. Big FM

It is broadcast for 24hrs.It is controlled by ADAG Adlabs.Big FM was started in Bangalore with great publicity. It played more Kannada songs and less Hindi songs. The quality of station was really good. It had excellent RJs. This may be the reason within 1 month of their launch, they became the No.1 Radio station in Bangalore. They were No.1 until Radio Mirchi was playing more Hindi songs. But when Radio Mirchi started playing 24 hour Kannada songs Big FM came to No.2 position. Now Big FM is also playing 24hours Kannada songs except on Saturday night 9pm to 12am where they play Hindi songs back to back.RJs: Big RJs are also superb. RJs like Harsha Shivaram, Shruthi, Deepu, Rashmi, Rohit, Dayanand, Hari, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Archana are excellent RJs. But now some of the RJs in above list have left Big FM. A programme named 'Big Coffee'(Monday to Saturday 7am to 11am) with RJs Harsha and Shruthi is the most popular radio programme in Bangalore.
